OBITURAY Remembering Marie Françoise Gladys Louis Born: Grand Goave, Haiti on April 4th, 1948 Transitioned: Brooklyn, NY on May 28th, 2025 Age: 77 years old Resided: Brooklyn, NY Marie Françoise Gladys Louis, aka Gladys, was the third child born to Oriane Désir, an owner of a small business and André Dauphin, a hat-maker. When she lived in Haiti as a young woman, she worked with children in kindergarten. She taught them the basics like the alphabet, reading and writing, and taught them children’s songs. Gladys was the first in her family to marry and leave Haiti. She met her future husband, Jean-Claude R. Louis, a dental student, and married in May 1974. Gladys and her husband move to Quebec, Canada and lived there for four years before they moved to Maradi, Niger in West Africa. It was there where the two had their daughter, Marilyn Louis. After nine years of living in Niger, she, her husband and daughter, settled in the United States to have a better life. Gladys resided in Brooklyn, NY for 38 years until she transitioned at the age of 77. She is remembered by her husband, daughter and extended family. Jeune femme en Haïti, elle travaillait auprès d'enfants de maternelle. Elle leur enseignait les bases comme l'alphabet, la lecture et l'écriture, et leur apprenait des chansons enfantines. Gladys fut la première de sa famille à se marier et à quitter Haïti. Elle rencontra son futur mari, Jean-Claude R. Louis, étudiant en médecine dentaire, et les épousa en mai 1974. Gladys et son mari s'installèrent au Québec, au Canada, où ils vécurent quatre ans avant de s'installer à Maradi, au Niger, en Afrique de l'Ouest. C'est là qu'ils ont eu leur fille, Marilyn Louis. Après neuf ans passés au Niger, elle, son mari et sa fille se sont installés aux États-Unis pour offrir une vie meilleure à leur fille. Gladys a vécu à Brooklyn, dans l'État de New York, pendant 38 ans, jusqu'à sa transition à l'âge de 77 ans. Son mari, sa fille et sa famille élargie se souviennent d'elle.
