In Loving Memory of Janet Sweeney (1931-2023) It is with great sadness that the family of Janet Sweeney announces her passing on July 7, 2023, at the age of 91. Janet was born in 1931 in Brooklyn, NY, the eldest of three sisters and the daughter of the late Mary (May) Seifert and Anthony Fischer. Janet resided at 3160 Whitney Avenue in Gerritsen Beach, NY for 61 years, and was a faithful parishioner at Resurrection Church for 70 years. Janet’s adventurous spirit and remarkable journey through life touched the hearts of many, leaving behind cherished memories and a legacy of love and kindness. Janet is predeceased by her former husband, John T. Sweeney, Jr. She is survived by her devoted sisters, Jean Grady and Joan Dyer, and her beloved daughters, Maria Sweeney and her husband, David Sehr; Anne Sweeney Meade and her husband, T.J. Meade. Janet's legacy extended beyond her children as she found profound joy in being a grandmother. Her four loving grandchildren are Brendan (and his wife, Alexandra), Ryan, and Emma Meade, and Matthew Sehrsweeney. Her children and grandchildren were her pride and joy, and she took immense delight in watching them grow and thrive. Her love and guidance will forever be etched in their hearts. After her raising her children, Janet enjoyed her work as a secretary for Kingsborough College for many years. She will be dearly missed by her family and many close personal friends, and her memory will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to have known her. The family invites friends and loved ones to pay their respects at the visitation, which will be held on Friday, July 14, 2023, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the James P. Byrnes Funeral Home, located at 2384 Gerritsen Avenue, Brooklyn, NY. The funeral mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 15, 2023, at St. Francis Desales Church, located at 129-16 Rockaway Beach Blvd, Belle Harbor, NY.
